Billing arrangements

At Wingrove, we want to spend time with each individual patient, and avoid “5-minute medicine”. This means that the doctors who consult from Wingrove medical clinic do so on a private billing structure. Medicare covers only a part of the cost of seeing a doctor, and so out-of-pocket fees apply. Fees charged by doctors are in accordance with those set by the Australian Medical Association. We aim to provide fair, accessible, high-quality care for our community.

Our doctors wish to take time to see you, understand your concerns, and work through a treatment plan with, and for, you. There is an opportunity for you to ask questions and clarify any outstanding issues. Importantly as your Doctor gets to know you, and more about your lifestyle, they can work with you as an individual to achieve your health goals.

If a doctor’s fee is higher than you expect, and this may be because Medicare has restrictions on certain item numbers, or an alternative Medicare item has been used for a rebate. Please speak to your doctor about this when you next see them. Our practice and reception staff are not usually able to advise on these matters as every doctor is responsible for their own billing. Rarely, a rebate may not be processed or processed incorrectly, and our practice staff can review this for you.

There are higher out of pocket fees on Saturdays. The clinic is not open after 1 pm on Saturdays, or on Sundays or public holidays.

It is also advised that you consider applying for the Medicare Safety net, which can be done through your MyGov App or on your Medicare profile/App. This means that when you have reached a certain family or personal threshold, your out-of-pocket costs are reduced.

The Full Fee is payable on the day which includes the Medicare rebate and your out of pocket fee. We can refund you the Medicare rebate on the day if you have a physical EFT card. If you do not have an EFT card with you, your Medicare rebate will be deposited directly to your account within 24-48 business hours.
